People News from the Faculty of Science, week 12

Irina Kira Astakhova has joined the Nucleic Acid Center at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy as Associate Professor.

On 13 March, Associate Professor Thomas Ryttov from the Centre for Cosmology and Particle Physics Phenomenology (CP³-Origins) gave a public talk on "The Universe before, during, and after the Higgs: Where are we going?". The talk was arranged by UNF-Odense – the Danish Youth Association of Science.

Professor Francesco Sannino hosted a workshop on "Composite Dynamics: LattiCe and Experiments" at the Centre for Cosmology and Particle Physics Phenomenology (CP³-Origins) on 13-14 March. The workshop brought together expertise ranging from first principle lattice simulations to model building and particle physics phenomenology with the ambitious goals to extend and unify different approaches for a fundamental description of composite dynamics at the electroweak theory with(out) dark matter. The invited participants also explored new avenues allowing to constrain composite dynamics in high energy experiments.

On 20 March, Postdoc, PhD Henrik Holbech from the Department of Biology, gave a talk at Folkeuniversitetet: Er du et (ufri-)villigt forsøgsdyr?

Professor Marianne Holmer, Head of the Department of Biology, gave the opening speech at the 11th Danish Marine Mammal Symposium, which takes place at University of Southern Denmark on 21-22 March. Marine mammal research in Denmark exhibits growing activity and great diversity with research within disciplines such as behaviour, acoustics, communication, morphology, population biology, ecology, genetics, evolution, systematics and nomenclature. As such, the symposium comprises an ideal setting for learning more about marine mammal research.
