Assistant Professor Dalia A. Conde received a grant of DKK 370,000 from the Gerhard und Ellen Zeidler Foundation to continue her work on zoos and population research. The project aims to assess gaps and opportunities for the management of threatened species across EU zoos. This grant is an extension of the grant of DKK 150,000 she received in March 2013.
Professor Jesper Wengel has received a 2014 award for excellence and is now Honorary Life Fellow at the Indian Society of Chemists and Biologists (ISCB). The award is given for Professor Wengel’s contributions to chemical science.
On 1 March, Coen Elemans was engaged as Associate Professor at Department of Biology. Dutch born Coen Elemans is the director of Elemans Lab, where he and his colleagues study the control mechanisms that vocal vertebrates use to produce sound for communication.
Associate Professor Bjarne Toft, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science was the host of the national Georg Mohr Competition, held at the University of Southern Denmark from 3-5 March 2014. 29 young and talented high school students met in Odense to train and compete in mathematics. The winners will go on to the Nordic Mathematics Competition and the final Danish contestants will go to the 55th International Mathematical Olympiad in South Africa in July.
