People news from the Faculty of Science, week 6
Professor Martin Røssel Larsen and PhD student Nanna Holmgaard List were among this year’s receivers of the prestigious Danish EliteForsk awards. Røssel Larsen from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology received DKK 1m for scientific work and DKK 200,000 for private use.
Nanna Holmgaard List, PhD student at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy received a travelling scholarship of DKK 300,000 for studies abroad.
Professor Martin Røssel Larsen joined the Industrial PhD Programme Committee (Erhvervsforskerudvalget, EFU). EFU is appointed by the Danish Council for Technology and Innovation (DCTI), and its task is to evaluate applications for the Industrial PhD Programme.
Tuesday saw the inauguration lecture by Honorary Professor, Dr. Hal Caswell. Hal Caswell works with biodemography at the Max-Planck Center Odense, Department of Biology.
Peter Kornerup, Professor Emeritus, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, has received an award for “best computer science paper” in 2013 along with his co-authors Vincent Lefèvre, Nicolas Louvet and Jean-Michel Muller. The award was given by the French popular science magazine La Recherche for the paper On the computation of Correctly Rounded Sums. IEEE Trans. Computers 61 (3): 289-298 (2012).
Professor Ole Nørregaard Jensen, Head of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, has been invited to join the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences (Akademiet for Tekniske Videnskaber, ATV). ATV is an independent, non-profit institution. Its objective is to promote technological and scientific research and ensure the application of research results to the benefit of society.
