Virtual Reality and Alcohol prevention

This project aims to test if a virtual social environment can help young people build their skills to make decisions and say “no” in situations where they may feel that they are subject to peer pressure in relation to alcohol and other drugs.

In this project, a newly developed virtual reality based learning tool consisting of a computer simulation of a three-dimensional environment that shows a typical party situation for young people will be studied regards the intended effects among Danish adolescents aged 15-18 years. In the game “VR FestLab” participants are able to "steer" their own party through intuitive and realistic choices that can be carried out using special electronic equipment.

The project is funded by Trygfonden and lead by Associate Professor Christiane Stock (cstock@health.sdu.dk), and managed by Julie Dalgaard Guldager (jguldager@health.sdu.dk) Unit for Health Promotion Research (SDU) in collaboration with Associate Professor Gunver Majgaard, the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute (SDU). Project period: April 2018 to December 2021.
