New university director at SDU

Thomas Buchvald Vind holds a position of Vice Director of Business Economics at the University of Copenhagen (KU).

On 1st May Thomas Buchvald Vind assumes the post of University Director at the University of Southern Denmark. Thomas is 45 years old, holds an MSc in Administration and Political Science, and previously held the position of Vice Director of Business Economics at the University of Copenhagen (KU).

-Thomas Buchvald Vind has a thorough knowledge of working in a politically-led organisation and experience of managing and developing a professional services culture. Thomas specialises in development, but is well able to prioritise, and considers the management of ongoing operations a high priority. This makes him ideal for the University of Southern Denmark, where we continue to focus on quality and relevance – both with respect to our strategic initiatives and in our day-to-day operations, says Vice-Chancellor Henrik Dam.

The new University Director is very much at home in the academic world. He began his career within academia in 2002 as chief clerk at the Budget and Planning Department of the University of Copenhagen, where he has subsequently held various management positions within financing and administration.

Thomas Buchvald Vind took a break of over four years from his career at KU to work as a consultant for PA Consulting Group, where amongst other things he provided services for a variety of educational institutions. In 2015 he returned to KU to take up a position as Vice Director of the university’s finance department.

Degree from Edinburgh

Thomas Buchvald Vind holds several university degrees. He holds an MSc in Administration and Political Science from KU, completed in 2002, and also holds a Masters degree in Social and Political Theory from the University of Edinburgh, from where he graduated in 1998. In 2014 he completed a Masters degree in Public Leadership and Management at Copenhagen Business School (CBS) and KU.

-SDU a well-run university which has the education of its students as its central priority and where research is carried out in a strong interdisciplinary environment. The University is highly engaged in local society and is strongly positioned regionally, nationally and internationally. I look forward to continuing SDU’s strong and ambitious development in the coming years in collaboration with the university’s staff, students and external partners, says Thomas Buchvald Vind.

The new university director lives in Virum. He is married to consultant physician Ane Bonnerup Vind and the couple have two children aged 14 and 17.

Thomas Buchvald Vind replaces Herluf Petersen, who has been acting University Director since November 2016.
