With Jens Ringsmose as new Dean at the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences, SDU gets a leader who is passionate about university leadership.

The Faculty of Business and Social Sciences will receive the new Dean on 1 June 2019. It will be Jens Ringsmose, who comes from a position as Institute Manager and Vice-Dean of the Royal Danish Defence College.

For Jens Ringsmose, the new position will be a reunion with SDU, as he previously held various positions at the university.

Most recently as Head of Department for the Political Sciences Faculty in 2014-2016, before taking his current position at the Royal Danish Defence College.

Value to society

According to the Vice-Chancellor of SDU, Henrik Dam, it is with great pleasure that Jens Ringsmose is employed as the new Dean at the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences.

“With Jens Ringsmose we get an inspiring and visionary Dean who will guarantee that high quality research is created, which is a prerequisite for the university to create value for society. I have no doubt that he has the skills, will and ambition to demonstrate the relevance and value of the social sciences to society through education, research, and knowledge sharing”, says Henrik Dam.

A passion for leadership

The Faculty of Business and Social Sciences, which Jens Ringsmose will be leading, has research and teaching activities spread across the University of Southern Denmark's campuses in Odense, Sønderborg, Esbjerg, Kolding and Slagelse, however the vast majority are located in Odense.

The Faculty of Business and Social Sciences employs approximately 525 people and has around 11,500 students.

“The Faculty of Business and Social Sciences at SDU has a very strong research environment with high academic standards. My ambition is that we should create “knowledge that moves”, it is basically about having to clarify and strengthen the faculty’s value for the Danish society”, says Jens Ringsmose.

The new Dean also emphasises that he “is passionate about leadership”:

“In my carrier, I have never doubted that research and education leadership is my professional calling. It is rewarding, meaningful, and professionally stimulating.”

Jens Ringsmose is married and has three children. He succeeds Nikolaj Malchow-Møller as the new Dean, who on 1 March joined the CBS as Vice-Chancellor.
