The PhD Programme in Law is provided by the Department of Law where research is carried out within all major areas of legal science.

The PhD student will be part of a department with approximately 65 employees (faculty and staff), primarily situated in Campus Odense but with a few colleagues situated at Campus Kolding and Campus Esbjerg as well. The department offers Bachelor and Master degree programmes in law and business law as well as mixed Master degree programmes in cooperation with other departments. Furthermore, the department is responsible for teaching a range of legal subjects in various parts of University of Southern Denmark. In the course of the PhD programme, the PhD student is expected to undertake a limited amount of teaching.

The Department of Law participates in Jurforsk, the national Danish doctoral programme for the science of Law. The Jurforsk programme offers courses at PhD-level within all aspects of Law.

As part of the programme, the PhD student is expected to stay at a foreign university or research institution for 3-6 months. Among others, PhD students have visited Duke University (US), University of Tasmania, Universität Hamburg and University of Oslo. The senior researchers at the department will assist in planning the stay abroad.

Former PhD students have pursued an academic career at University of Southern Denmark or other universities. Others with a PhD degree from the department hold positions in governmental branches or in private companies.
