Course description

How do, and how should senior military officers in democratic states engage in domestic political processes? We will challenge existing theories of civil-military relations and engage in a dynamic process of theory revision and co-construction. Students will attend four traditional study days (October 28-31), followed by active participation in a two-day international conference (November 1-2), co-hosted by RDDC, SDU, and Princeton University, featuring two dozen of the world’s leading experts on this topic. During the conference, students will track the discussion and develop several lessons learned documents summarizing the findings of the course and conference, which they will then have the chance to present to an audience of Danish experts on December 15. The final paperwill allow the students to synthesize these experiences in a 10-page paper further developing new ideas in military politics.
