The DIAS Digest: A Renewed Newsletter, A Clearer Voice

The DIAS Digest is the official newsletter of the Danish Institute for Advanced Study. It has been part of our communication for years, but its concept has recently evolved, with the latest issue just being released.

Af Andreas Haagen Birch, , 12-02-2026

With the launch of a renewed format in late December 2025, the Digest now takes on a clearer magazine-style identity. Rather than simply collecting updates, it brings together reflections, research, new initiatives, and community highlights in a curated whole that mirrors the intellectual life of DIAS.

It is built around four recurring formats, with each reflecting a different dimension of life at DIAS.

Inside DIAS
This is where readers can catch up on what is shaping the institute: new Fellows and Chairs, open positions, organizational developments, and strategic initiatives. It offers clarity and orientation, a place to understand how DIAS is growing and evolving.

Curious Corner
Each month, one Fellow or Chair responds to a single thought-provoking question. The format is intentionally simple: one question, one voice. The aim is not to summarize research, but to reveal how DIAS scholars think, and to invite readers into the intellectual curiosity that drives their work.

Community Highlights
Research does not unfold in isolation. Community Highlights offers glimpses of recent weeks at DIAS: images from events, snapshots of conversations, and short stories from Wild Wednesdays, lectures, and informal gatherings. It captures the atmosphere and the human dimension behind the ideas.

The Coming Month
A forward-looking overview of events open to the DIAS community and the wider public. From high-profile lectures to experimental formats, this section makes it easy to see what conversations are about to unfold, and how to take part.

Together, these formats give the Digest its magazine feel. Grounded in institutional clarity, animated by intellectual curiosity, and anchored in a living academic community.

The second issue of this renewed Digest is now out.

In this edition, readers will find:

  • Open academic positions as DIAS continues to grow.
  • New Fellows and affiliates strengthening our interdisciplinary landscape.
  • The introduction of DIAS Explorations, a new framework designed to give early-stage research ideas space to develop.
  • Autumn highlights from DIAS activities and events.
  • And this month’s Curious Corner, where historian Gareth Millward reflects on how complaint letters can reveal the moral logic of the welfare state.

As DIAS continues to grow and evolve, the Digest offers a steady rhythm: a place to follow new beginnings, revisit recent conversations, and look ahead to what’s next.

The second issue is out now, and the conversation continues.
