We study how incentives and motivation influence behaviour of health care professionals and organisations, in order to enhance efficient and high quality delivery of health care services. This includes understanding how financial and non -inancial incentives affect health professionals’ behaviour and the delivery of care to patients.
We study how market conditions and working environments affect motivations and job satisfaction, using rich panel data on physicians’ motivational profiles. Further, we study citizens’ health behaviours, and how structural barriers and personality traits can hinder access to health care.
We exploit natural experiments, conduct laboratory experiments, and link survey data and register data to generate unique evidence that can inform policy making.
