Zirocco visit

On 4 December, researchers from CIM visited the enterprise Zirocco. The enterprise combines gas turbines with software and smart technology to create what could informally be called ‘huge hair dryers’ to remove moisture from surfaces. The technology is for instance used by road workers, who can coat the roads with asphalt even on days with heavy rain thanks to Zirocco-M100 Jet Dryer.

Managing Director Brian Ellegaard Andersen showed the production facilities which gave rise to several exciting and academic discussions since the researchers let their imagination run wild by touching the products.

The strength of the concept ’CIM on Tour’ is that CIM’s engineers and researchers get hands-on experience with diverse products. Ellegaard Andersen was indeed enthusiastic about the visit.

” When we are standing side by side turning a component in our hands, it paves the way for unfiltered and direct talk about potential, which is the best foundation for setting up new collaboration projects. The casual form is also much quicker and interesting for SMEs, since we have to respond fast and professionally to market requirements.”

Furthermore, Ellegaard Andersen emphasizes that a visit like this is a really good way to create cohesion between industry and academia and to establish a basis for future student internships.

” Moreover, it is important that competent researchers are involved in the dialogue from the very beginning to ensure that student projects are supported with the right efforts. In previous projects, we have experienced the importance of this. It is also fundamental to somehow feel if interests and possibilities are mutual. The more specific from the beginning, the bigger chance for success, why this concept is definitely appreciated.”

Has the visit then resulted in specific plans for student and research projects?

” Absolutely, since afterwards we have discussed the potential with relevant employees. Thus, we have a need for R&D within sensor/noise detection and recording, but also as to data transmission and machine design.”
