Systems of Neuroscience

Content

This course aims to give PhD students a solid understanding of systems neuroscience. How brain circuits give rise to behavior and the neuroscience techniques used to assess whole brain function. Covering techniques like optogenetics and chemogenetics, spatial transcriptomics, light sheet microscopy, EEG, PET, fMRI, brain stimulations and brain computer interphases.

Students will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and possibilities of these methods and how they are used to study the brain and mind. The course is translational and will include both basic and clinical neuroscience.

Learning objectives

Following the course a student will be able to:

  1. Understand the most recent scientific advances in systems neuroscience related to plasticity, functional networks and their implication in the functions of the mind.
  2. Understand how these techniques are used to study disorders of the mind.
  3. Discuss the current knowledge and gaps in our understanding of how the brain is organized and how circuits in the brain work.
  4. Understand and discuss recent advances in rapid antidepressive drugs, brain stimulation and brain computer interphases.

Participants:

This course is intended for students with strong foundation in neuroscience and interest in psychology.
