Born 1955 in Copenhagen. M.A. from University of Aarhus 1981 (history and art history), Ph.D. 1989, dr.phil. 2004. Worked for an archaeological magazine, in a museum, and as research fellow before joining Aarhus University Press in 1985 as the founding director. President of the International Association of Scholarly Publishers 1991-1997 and convener of two International Conferences on Scholarly Publishing (Thessaloniki 1994 and Vancouver 1997).
Senior external lecturer in ancient history at the University of Bergen (Norway) from 1993 to 2000.
Left publishing in 2000 to join the newly established history programme at the University of Southern Denmark, Esbjerg, as study coordinator and senior lecturer in ancient history.
Publications include Bydannelse i det romerske Gallien (1984), Romerveje i Europa (1985), The Geography of Power (1989), War as a Cultural and Social Force (ed., 2001), The Roads of Ancient Cyprus (2004), Ancient Fishing and Fish Processing (ed., 2005), Rome and the Black Sea Region (ed., 2006), Urban Life and Local Politics in Roman Bithynia: The Small World of Dion Chrysostomos (2008); Ancient Nets and Fishing Gear (ed., 2010).
Editor of Classica et Medievalia, Danish journal of philology and history 2007-2012 and director of the research program "Where east meets West" 2012-2015.
