Kirsten Drotner is dr.phil. and professor of media studies at the Institute of Literature, Culture and Media Studies, University of Southern Denmark where she is currently founding director of DREAM: Danish Research Centre on Education and Advanced Media Materials www.dream.dk
Her research interests include media history, audience studies, methodology, and youthful media culture, inc. user-generated content creation and digital literacies.
In English, she is (co-)author or (co-)editor of The International Handbook of Chidren, Media and Culture (Sage 2008, with Sonia Livingstone), Informal learning and Digital Media (Cambridge Scholars’ Publishing 2008, with Hans S. Jensen & Kim C. Schrøder), Researching Audiences (Arnold 2003, with Kim C. Schrøder, Catherine Murray & Steve Kline) and English Children and Their Magazines, 1751-1945 (Yale UP 1988), just as she has contributed to a number of anthologies and scholarly journals inc. Media, Culture & Society, European Journal of Communication and Nordicom Review. Over the years, she has served in a number of counselling capacities on national, nordic and wider European cultural, media and research committees. 2005-09 she served as chairperson of the Danish Research Council for the Humanities. Kirsten Drotner is a fellow of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters.
