The widespread use of microcontrollers has increased significantly in recent years, with billions of microcontrollers introduced every year in various types of control and monitoring applications, including a broad variety of mechatronic systems.

Today, there is no single piece of equipment without an embedded control system, and this adds a new, quantitative dimension to the problem of control system design, in addition to the great diversity and ever growing complexity of embedded applications.
