Conference 2013

Assessment and other forms of feedback have a profound effect on students’ learning approach. The project group Assessment, feedback and learning under the project Student in Focus at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) has for the last year been working on collecting and validating examples of assessment and feedback forms that enhance students’ active participation and support learning in accordance with the underlying principles of active learning at SDU.

The target group for the conference is primarily teachers from SDU, but also employees at the UC Lillebælt, UC Syd, UC Sjælland and secondary schools in the Region of Southern Denmark are invited. The conference is, however, open for anybody else interested in assessment and feedback but persons from the region take precedence.

The aim of the conference is to give the participants the possibility to

  • Share, document, demonstrate, give grounds for and analyse their own examples of good assessment and feedback forms
  • Get inspired to develop their own practice further or develop a new practice in terms of assessment and feedback forms.

The conference is structured as a range of presentations of the participants’ examples of good assessment and feedback forms framed by plenary lectures by Dr. Alastair Irons, University of Sunderland, England. Dr. Irons has for many years been working with assessment forms and formative feedback.

Time and place: The conference takes place on November 18th 2013 from 9-16 at the University of Southern Denmark (Odense), U100. Participation is free of charge upon registration.

Call for papers: Participants are encouraged to submit abstracts (max 300 words) for a poster on assessment or feedback forms. The abstract should address the following questions:

  • What is the learning goal connected to this assessment or feedback form?
  • What does the assessment or feedback form consist of?
  • Which kind of experiences have you had using this assessment or feedback form?

The abstracts for the poster will go through a feedback process prior to the conference. Participants will present their posters in groups of six. Every poster is presented for 5 minutes and after the individual presentations all six posters will be discussed for 45 minutes. Please submit your abstract as an attached Word document in a mail to Sladja Zoric, Deadline for submission of abstracts is October 11th 2013.

The conference language is primarily Danish (except the plenary lectures). Participants can, however, choose to present their poster in either Danish or English.

Conference proceedings
At the conference the participants have the possibility to present their examples of assessment or feedback forms. These examples are subsequently published in a conference proceeding. Remember to add your poster to your teaching portfolio!
