About Nordwel Summerschool

NordWel Summer School is a an intensive course organised by NordWel in every summer. Welfare states can be studied with a number of theoretical and methodological approaches, from various chronological perspectives and with a focus on different empirical phenomena. The summer school aims to stimulate discussions across disciplines and foster innovative cross-disciplinary research on the development of welfare states over time. These courses are meant to give students and young reserachers access to those scholars doing cutting-egde research in this field. They are directed to Nordic and foreign PhD students. The summer schools are held at various places in the Nordic countries.

NordWel Summer School has been organised six times between 2008-2013:

Helsinki/Espoo 2008: NCoE NordWel in cooperation with the Danish Research School for History and Nordic Research School for Contemporary History organized a summer school in Helsinki, 21-26 August 2008.

Bergen 2009: NCoE NordWel in cooperation with the Rokkan Centre, the Department of Archaeology, History, Cultural Studies and Religion and the Department of Comparative Politics at University of Bergen organized a summer school in Bergen, 7-12 June 2009.

Odense 2010: NCoE NordWel and NCoE REASSESS in cooperation with the Centre for Welfare State Research, University of Southern Denmark, organized an international summer school in Odense, 15-20 August 2010.

Sigtuna/Stockholm 2011: NCoE NordWel in cooperation with the Department of History, Stockholm University and the Institute for Future Studies, Stockholm organized an international summer school in Stockholm-Sigtuna in August 2011.

Helsinki/Espoo 2012 : NCoE NordWel and NCoE REASSESS organized an international summer school in Hanasaari, Espoo in August 2012.

Reykjavik 2013: NCoE NordWel and NCoE REASSESS organized an international summer school in Hveragerdi, Iceland in August 2013.

Helsinki 2015: an international summer school in cooperation with Sino-Nordic Welfare Research Network SNOW in June 2015 at the University of Helsinki

Odense 2016: STATE, SOCIETY & CITIZEN- CROSS-DISCIPLINARY PERSPECTIVES ON WELFARE STATE DEVELOPMENT
