Living Lab

Project Description

The goal of the project is to develop IT-solutions for improving energy efficiency in public buildings used for multiple purposes involving the users of the buildings. Buildings account for approximately 40% of Denmark’s energy consumption so making buildings more energy efficient are of vital importance in reducing the overall energy consumption.

Changes in the use of a building can affect the energy efficiency by more than 30% making it an important parameter to optimize. Many public buildings have multiple uses making energy efficient control of the building difficult. Due to multiple uses, buildings will experience big changes the occupancy and behavior over time.

An example of this kind of building is the new 'Borgernes Hus' in Odense. The building will be for people from all parts of society and agegroups. The building will house a library, study groups, presentations, information and Municipality services.  The project will study how these many different uses will affect the energy consumption and comfort of Borgernes Hus and how it will affect the control of the building.

The project will communicate the data and knowledge attained through the project to the citizens of Odense giving them a view of how digital possibilities can create energy efficiency. Knowledge from the project will also be spread out to other buildings in Odense and around Fyn such as gyms, clubs, schools etc. where may user groups share the same facilities and where the users are not responsible for paying the energy bill themselves.
