Background and Purpose

Major economic, ecological, cultural, and social crises are racking the globe with increasing frequency and intensity. To address these crises in a nuanced and researched informed way the Faculty of Business and Social Science at SDU has founded an Academy.

The Academy is a university-based platform, with an overall vision of identifying and addressing pressing challenges on the contemporary business and political agenda. The aim of the academy is to contribute to change in Danish society by developing scenarios for change from a broad social science perspective that will shape and orient decision-making.

By joining the most impactful and prolific researchers at the faculty and their professional academic network, operating space will be presented to society through interdisciplinary collective knowledge and research sharing. Outputs presented by the academy will be rooted in, based on, and informed by the research and background of the academy member. The academy is an independent, cross-departmental body under the Faculty of Business and Social Science at SDU.

Vision

Drawing on expertise in e.g. welfare history and welfare innovation, marketplace cultures, Nordic models of market governance, measurement, innovation, technology, culture, and health economics, SDU ASC aims to become a center to tackle some of the most pressing items on the contemporary business and political agenda.

The main vision of SDU ASC academy is to solve real-world problems by identifying and addressing pressing challenges on the contemporary business and political agenda by joining the best minds of the faculty and their professional academic networks.

Structure

The academy consists of a pool of past and present academy members including the steering committee.

Membership in SDU ASC is based on merits and through contribution to academy activities, and lasts for a period of two years. Additionally, external researchers and stakeholders can achieve membership based on invitation related to participation in particular activities. The full academy will meet once every year to discuss topics for future activities and general direction of the academy.

History

The initiative behind SDU ASC began from a series of informal conversations among a group of researchers from different research disciplines at BSS SDU on how to heighten the visibility of the Faculty’s high-profile researchers and to promote dialogue with decision-makers at different policy levels.

A working group consisting of representatives from several research environments at the Faculty has been working on formulating a terms of reference which has been approved by the heads of department at BSS SDU. The Dean of BSS appointed the working group as the first steering committee for SDU ASC.
