§ 14 Danish/Scandinavian Modern History
A. The size of the course
Number of lessons (intended as guide only): 26
Weighting: 5 ECTS credits
B. Goal description
The student should have knowledge of the historical background of pre­sent-day Scandinavia, including influence of the historical development on the Scandinavians, their lives and values. The student should be able to de­scribe, analyse, and critically relate to topics in relation to the syllabus.
C. The contents of the course
The starting point of the course is an outline and discussion of approx. the last 250 years of Scandinavian history; i.e. the period which created the background for the present Scandinavian societies. The main theme is the de­vel­opment from agricultural-, foresting- and fishing societies to modern in­dustry states and the development of the Scandinavian Welfare state. Also Scandinavia’s international relations will be included.

About 400 pages. Arranged in consultation with the teacher.
F. Assessment criteria
Under consideration of examination type and study level, emphasis is given to the extent to which the student’s performance lives up to the goal de­scrip­tion, as well as the extent to which the student commands the general com­petence goals mentioned in §2, especially no. 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, which the course especially supports.
The grade is given with reference to the degree of fulfilment of the goal de­scrip­tion, as described in the ministerial order on the grading scale

The examination consists of 2 questions of a discussion-inviting character.
