Global Transformation Studies builds on five course modules taught in two semesters. The two courses of the first semester will give a general introduction to ongoing global changes and the ways in which scholars have made sense of them. The second semester comprises three courses addressing the areas of politics, culture, religion and economics. Each of these three courses is divided into three parts.
The first part will present a number of theoretical discussions regarding the respective transformative dimensions in the political, cultural, religious and economic realms. In this way, each course builds on an analytical framework for following discussions of empirical observations.
The second step takes studies of the Middle East, as well as on migratory societies and diaspora communities in Europe and North America, as exemplary regions for the analysis of global transformations. Finally, the third part presents a specific case study of global transformations that is related to the ongoing research of the respective lecturer. In this way, the program aims at making students familiar with both the general debates and more specific research on transformative developments in the Middle East and Europe as well as with the research conducted at the Centre.
The exams meet the general requirements of bachelor programmes at SDU and consist of a combination of oral and written exams.
