More about the programme
The world is under transformation. The East (China, India) is on the rise vis-á-vis a retreating West (the US, the EU). Transnational migration, global religious revivals, subsequent financial crises, transnational terrorism, the emergence of a new Middle East, new social media and new social movements as well as indicators of a dramatic climate change are examples of this undeniable transformation. Yet how does one grasp the puzzling features of these global developments?
Beginning with an examination of the conceptual history and the different meanings of globalization, this supplementary bachelor programme in Global Transformation Studies introduces students of the humanities and the social sciences to three central dimensions of ongoing global transformations: The formation and future of global politics; divergence and convergence in the realm of culture and religion; and consequences of the increasing interdependence of economic transactions. Moreover, it will do so in addressing both global and local dimensions of these multi-faceted transformations.
