Competence profile
The aim of the programme is
- to give students basic qualifications relevant for the humanities and social sciences
- to enable students to analyze issues in the programme’s subject areas and to arrive at academically well-founded arguments and conclusions based on the understanding of relevant methods and theories
- to provide students with the best possible basis for further practical and theoretical training in public institutions and private enterprises
- to qualify students to be accepted for graduate degree programmes or other relevant graduate courses
The programme aims to develop the following target skills for students:
General competence targets:
Students should be able:
1. to delimit and define a problem in the subject area
2. to investigate, analyze and solve problems related to the subject area by applying relevant academic theories and methods
3. to systematize complex knowledge and data and to select and prioritize problems significant for the subject at hand
4. to critically assess theories and methods applied in the subject area
5. to make precise and consistent use of concepts and relevant terminology
6. to present an argument based on tenable academic foundations
7. to conduct an informed dialogue in the subject area
8. to deal with the subject area in a focused and consistent way
9. to read relevant sources critically, provide documentation for references and make relevant notes and bibliographies
10. to employ precise and correct language in written and oral assignments
11. to communicate complex subject matters to different audiences in a relevant and comprehensible way
12. to work in teams which includes being able to accept criticism of their own work and give constructive criticism to others
13. to work independently in a disciplined, structured and focused way and to be able to conform to deadlines and formalities
14. to use IT as a tool both in searching for information and in oral and written communication
Subject Specific Target Skills:
The subject specific target skills relate to the core subject of the programme and are subdivided in knowledge, abilities and competences in accordance with “Ny dansk kvalifikationsramme for videregående uddannelse” (“New Danish Qualification Framework for Higher Education”)

Knowledge:
In accordance with the qualification framework, the student should be knowledgeable of the following: the student should have knowledge of theory, methodology and practices within the relevant disciplines of the programme
- the student should be able to understand and reflect on theories, methodology and practices
Abilities:
In accordance with the qualification framework, the student should be able to:
- use one or several of the specific methods and tools of the subject specific target skills and be able to use general abilities relevant for employment within the area
- assess theoretical and practical problems and apply relevant analysis and problem-solving models
- convey subjects and solutions to specialists as well as non-specialists
Competences
In accordance with the qualification framework, the competences of the student should meet the following criteria:
- in practical terms, the student should be able to handle complex and development-oriented situations in study or work related situations
- the student should – based on a professional approach – be able to take part in professional and interdisciplinary cooperation
- the student should be able to identify his/her own learning needs and structure his/her own learning in different relevant learning environments
