Name: Emanuela Antova
Study: MSc. In Economics and Business Administration – Strategy and Organisation
Company: MarketSelect
My name is Emanuela Antova, I am from Bulgaria, and I study at SDU, Odense. Currently I am at the end of my second semester of Master degree in Business Administration and Economics - Strategy and Organization, and I am going to start on my internship at MarketSelect.
Before coming to Denmark, my expectations of Danes were that they are very open, polite, interested to other cultures and foreigners, especially as it is a well-known fact that so big part of the population speak English. I was expecting that the country is very well organized (i.e. administration) and clean, that everyone knows their position and place in the society. I was expecting a lot of young people, who are open and interested in everything. I was expecting to see people from diverse cultures in the country.
I chose Odense, because it is not that big city, but in the same time it is not a small one either. It is just about the normal size for a student - not to spend too much time to travel around the city and at the same time to have enough time for everything. It has nice places for walks and sports, convenient public transport, a lot of stores, cinemas, etc.
I wanted to do an internship, so I went to the Careers' Centre at SDU in Odense to ask if there are some internships, if there are people that the Career Centre knows or companies that are interested in international students that can work for them. That is how I got in contact with the company and Helle, and got the internship at Market Select. I think I have good knowledge and skills that I gained during my previous internships and experience abroad that can be of use to the company. I have good idea generation skills, research skills and I know foreign languages. I think I actually use all of them during my stay there and I can tell that I even improve them with the help from Helle and the tasks she assigns to me.
I chose to do an internship, because I wanted to get experience and understanding of what it is to work in another country. In this way you can get to know the people better and their way of life. Furthermore I chose to do an internship, because in the current economic situation all over the world, young people, especially students are supposed to get not only knowledge and their degrees, but experience too. The more international experience one gets the more valuable he/she is. The competition in the job market is fierce and all employees expect from the newly graduated students to have decent understanding and experience of everything. It is not only the experience and the knowledge gained from the work, but the understanding of a foreign culture and the different country experience that will be of benefit too. In this way I can show now that I am open to new challenges, I am interested in different countries and cultures.
