Company: Riegens A/S
My name is Dominique Nikerle-Uhthoff, I am currently studying MSc. In Economics and Business Administration at SDU in my second semester after starting my masters degree program in February 2012.
I have a bachelor’s degree in culture and economics from the University of Mannheim in Germany and for my future studies I decided I wanted to try something new. Two of my fellow students from Mannheim, who already started the degree at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense told me that SDU at Odense is a great place to study. After gathering some more information about SDU I found out that I would have the chance to write my thesis in collaboration with a company – a chance I would not have in Mannheim. This, and the fact that I would have the chance to get a full degree abroad in a program that fits my wishes and needs exactly, is why I chose Odense.
The application process was fairly simple and I became a proud student at SDU.
I arrived in Denmark in January 2012, and received a welcome package with helpful information as well as the keys to my cozy apartment.
An official reception was held at the faculty before the official start of the semester.
During my first semester in Denmark, I decided that I could take a part time job in order to earn some extra money and use my theoretical skills in the real business world.
Luckily for me the International Office sent out an e-mail with a job offer by the Danish company Riegens. Their export manager needed an employee with native German language skills for the company’s market entry in Germany. After a quick call, where I got more information on the job, I sent in my application and was invited for an interview only a couple of days later.
In the end, I got the job and today I work 8 hours a day, one day a week. For my tasks, which include direct marketing, online marketing and translation, I use my German as well as my English language skills. I feel very welcome at Riegens and I can apply useful theoretical competences in a hands-on environment at the company. I’m intrigued by the idea of writing my thesis in collaboration with Riegens, and would I like to stay in Denmark after finishing my studies if an interesting job offer should come up.
