Philosophy (Master’s degree)
Contemporary conflicts and past wars, current politics and ancient religions, everyday problems and the big questions in life are all woven together in philosophy.
Philosophy is a discipline that has roots going back thousands of years while being firmly anchored in the present day. All you have to do is to switch on the television and see, for example, the continuing conflict over the Temple Mount in Jerusalem or a heated ethical debate about genetic technology to find proof of the importance of philosophy.
Philosophy gives you knowledge that goes both broad and deep and which you can use throughout your life, in the workplace and beyond.
Studying philosophy will enable you to tackle historical and contemporary areas of debate. You will learn how to think critically, how to analyse arguments and points of view, and how to place single issues in larger contexts. You will be given a thorough introduction to the history of ancient, medieval and modern philosophy and to the latest thinking in contemporary philosophy. In addition, you will learn about the fundamental philosophical disciplines, such as logic, epistemology, metaphysics, the history and theory of science, ethics and political philosophy.
