European Studies – Sønderborg focuses especially on borders and regions. Local and regional public authorities and organisations increasingly prioritise the promotion of the area’s cultural, educational and commercial conditions to secure growth and improvement of the populations living conditions. Increasingly, wholly oriented concepts are developed here, and especially in border regions it is tried to see the diversity of the location as an advantage. The European Union supports this development with special programs, too. This calls for employees with interdisciplinary competencies, who are able to actively engage in the preparation, support and implementation of multi-faceted development projects.
The programme is planned to include both theoretical and practical knowledge and insight into European conditions and a thorough knowledge in relation to regions and the significance of these in Europe. At the same time, the programme allows you to acquire fundamental skills and knowledge of qualitative scientific methods, regions and borders in history, regional and border regional development and sociological and communicational aspects in regions and border regions.
There is also the opportunity to obtain a Danish-German dual degree by studying a semester at our partner university in Flensburg, or to specialize by taking a company or institution internship, elective courses at other master programmes offered at SDU, or study a semester abroad.
All in all, the programme enables you to gain the qualifications necessary to enter into collaborative and developmental organisations at home or abroad.
