This MSc full degree programme in Biology is offered in English.
Get involved in top-tier research in Marine science, Bioacoustics and behaviour or Ecological physiology with world-class researchers and state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.
In the Master’s programme in Biology with a Research profile you get the opportunity to immerse yourself in current issues and complete your own research projects. The programme will provide you with a good basis for handling complex problems which are relevant in many different careers.

You can choose to focus on topics you find particularly interesting, for example:
- Ecology in freshwater and marine ecosystems
- The importance of biological evolution for the development of life on Earth
- Physiological responses and adaptations to environmental stress
- Ecotoxicology with special emphasis on xenobiotics and their effects on animals
- Nervous systems and behaviour of animals communicating or reacting to environmental stimuli
Focus your education
The programme in Biology with a Research profile is combined with a field of interest, which allows you to specialise in a specific scientific area. All of these areas of study are independent research streams, and each represents a specialization under the programme in Biology with a Research profile.
Choose between:
The programme will prepare you for a wide variety of jobs including research, consultancy, and management. You can also go on to apply for a research degree at The University of Southern Denmark or at another university, which leads to a PhD in science. Read more about the PhD programme at The Faculty of Science.
The degree awarded will be in the discipline of Biology, and the profile in the respective area of Bioacoustics and behaviour, Ecological physiology or Marine science will be described on the degree certificate as a Research profile.
For more information on the research undertaken by members of the Bioacoustics and behaviour and Ecological physiology groups, please see More about the programme. For information about the programme in Marine science go here.
