A national problem
Demographically speaking, Denmark is facing a problem in terms of securing future economic growth and competitiveness. The problems concern among others the increasing number of elderly in the population plus the expected lack of work force in some areas.
Damvas it behind the rapport “Integrating global talent” for the Danish industry foundation regarding international graduate students as a resource for growth and competitiveness. The rapport concerns amongst others which advantages it gives to hire an international fully-trained graduate student.
A regional focus
The University of Southern Denmark will in cooperation with the southern region of Denmark in the project International Brianstormers bring recruiting and adherence of international elite students into focus for the benefit of the development and growth in the southern region of Denmark. The students will be enrolled in existing graduate programmes on respectively the faculties of social science, humanities, science, and engineering, which all have primary similarities to the regions business areas Welfare Technology, Experience Economy, and Energy.
In total 39 graduate programmes in English.
How to retain the international students?
Before the international students arrive in Denmark, International Brainstormers will help them with accommodation. When they arrive in Denmark, the students will be greeted and taken care of by a buddy-arrangement so that they will fell welcome. Furthermore, a long line of leisure activities will be presented to them, which will help their integration in the Danish society.
Alongside their study, the students will be obligated to participate in several courses regarding the Danish labour market as well as receive language courses in Danish. Each International Brainstormer will be provided the opportunity to be connected to a Danish company mentor, which carry the function of introduction- and discussion partner in relation to cultural and professional questions.
Additionally, the course encloses a mandatory project oriented internship in a company. It is with the intention that the student also will be writing their master thesis in cooperation whit this company.
In this way the students will be prepared for Denmark and the Danish labour market – which they hopefully find interesting.
