International PhD seminar – 16^th and 17^th of September, 2012

Young researchers´ seminar on current management issues

Prior to the 2012 conference of the European Association for Sport Management (EASM) the Department of Leadership and Corporate Strategy at the University of Southern Denmark would like to invite young sport management scholars to an international PhD seminar. The seminar takes place the 16^th and 17^th of September at the Campus Slagelse, approximately 60 minutes by train from Copenhagen. From Slagelse trains depart directly for Aalborg – the hosting city of the 20^th EASM conference.

The purpose of the seminar is to bring together the future generation of sport management researchers in order to discuss topics, create networks and mutually stimulate each others´ research. Leading international senior scholars within our field will contribute to the seminar, thus hopefully creating two intensive and scientifically inspiring days.  

Price for participation is 150 € (1,000 DKK.). This amount covers, besides the scientific program, two lunches, fruit and coffee and a farewell dinner. Travel cost, accommodation and breakfasts are not included, but the department will facilitate contact to either hotel or youth hostel in the town of Slagelse. From Slagelse a joint departure to the conference city will be organized.

The maximum number of participants will be 20 persons. PhD students are credited with 3 ETCS for participation and 4 ECTS if they present a paper during the participation. PhD student are encouraged to submit a working paper of maximum 8,000 words (exclusive references) written in English. This can either be an early phase manuscript targeted for a later journal submission or a chapter for a dissertation. Each scholar shortly presents his/her paper and will receive individual feedback from one senior scholar. All papers are circulated among the participants. In addition, there will be some literature for each of the lectures. Finally, before the farewell dinner there will be a session specifically focusing on journal publication strategies and peer review processes, thus offering an informal and down-to-earth approach to the world of scientific journals guided by editors of core-journals within our research field.

In order to participate the students must be enrolled in a PhD program. Applications must be submitted to the Department of Leadership & Corporate Strategy no later than the 1^st of May, and must be signed by the supervisor as well. Please download and use the word-format form. Work load: 3 ECTS (participation) or 4 ECTS (participation and paper presentation).  

Important dates:

• 1^st of May, 2012: Deadline for applications.
• 16^th of May: Feedback on applications (acceptance/rejection). Course literature is announced and additional course information is provided (paper guidelines, accommodation, transportation etc.). 
• 10^th of August: Deadline for submission of working papers.
• 17^th of August: Participants will receive all working papers.
• 15^th of September: Arrival in Slagelse.
• 16^th of September: Check-in.
• 18^th of September: Joint departure for the EASM conference in Aalborg. 

The seminar is organized by the recently established research group `Sport, Business, Politics & Mass Media´. The seminar has received financial support from The Danish Ministry of Culture Committee on Sport Research (KIF).
