Overall aims
The overall aims of the research unit are to research and teach in the following areas:
- Movement and sport,
- Their links with cultural, institutional, political, spacial, psychological and pedagogical aspects, and
- The significance this has for health and society.
The concept of movement
The unifying concept for the research unit is MOVEMENT. The concept is multi-facetted in that movement touches upon a variety of levels of human life – physical, psychological and social – and does so simultaneously. People move physically as they take part in physical activities – in sport, play, dance, outdoor recreation, physical training etc. They are moved emotionally by feelings and moods. And they participate in social movements in the form of networks, associations and voluntary organizations, all of which are significant parts of civil society.
There is extensive research into each of these three interpretations of the concept of movement, but an understanding of how the three forms of movement are connected is lacking. How are we moved emotionally by physical movement? What is the significance of social movements on our desire to move physically? And so on.
