Inspiring and dedicated teaching was honoured at SDU
Associate Professor John Erik Hansen, teacher and programme coordinator in electrical power engineering at the Institute of Technology and Innovation, was awarded SDU’s prestigious Teaching Prize as Teacher of the Year at the Faculty of Engineering at the Annual University Festival Friday 7 October.
It was a very happy and proud John who received the prize from Vice-Chancellor Jens Oddershede and celebrated the nomination together with his wife and close colleagues at the Annual University Festival.
The reason the prize was awarded to John was, among other things, his dedication, academic skills and pedagogical approach.
John is able to communicate complicated material in a way that catches the attention of the students and makes his teaching entertaining and comprehensible. Moreover, he often relates his teaching to a practical reality using real life examples.
Besides, John’s ability to develop and improve the study programmes and the high priority he gives to maintaining close links with industry was emphasised.
The Teaching Prize is awarded every year to one teacher at each faculty. With the prize the university wants to emphasise the importance of good and inspiring teaching. In addition to the honour of the title as teacher of the year, the prize includes an award of 25,000 Danish kroner.
