In the E-learning unit at the University of Southern Denmark, we believe that virtual worlds, such as Second Life, will come to play a role in teaching and learning in the future. Virtual worlds give participants an increased feeling of prescence and enable many different types of communication and interaction. In this way, virtual worlds differ from typical e-learning platforms. However, it is important to find out what types of learning that can be supported and what specific teaching and learning acitivitities that can be carried out in virtual worlds.
