Despite financial crises, tourism is a growing global industry and millions of people’s livelihoods depend on it. This growth brings cultural and environmental challenges for both the tourist industry and for society.
Taking as its starting point an approach rooted in the social sciences and the humanities, TIC research covers subjects from communication, marketing, innovation, local business development, competence development, e-learning, management of cultural inheritance and natural assets.
The centre’s aim is to help develop sustainable solutions in tourism at all levels, which means that in addition to research, its activities also cover education and cooperation with authorities and the business community at a local, national and global level.
The centre staff teach on the BA in International Tourism and Leisure Management and in Hotel Management. TIC is responsible for the University of Southern Denmark’s international course European Master in Tourism Management (EMTM), which is offered in collaboration with the University of Girona in Spain and the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia and is part of the prestigious Erasmus Mundus programme.
