Objectives
The aim of CAST is to perform both research-based and applied projects within the health services research area. These activities are performed either by CAST alone or in collaboration with external partners inside and outside of the health service. CAST thus provides research-based information and competence in technology assessment and other areas of health services research.
Research partners
CAST is placed under the Institute of Public Health (IST), which has its main research competence in the areas;
Epidemiology, Health Economics, Clinical Pharmacology, General Practice and Environmental Medicine.
CAST also collaborates with other relevant institutes at the University of Southern Denmark. CAST has a broad contact network consisting of Danish and international researchers from other research centres and institutes. CAST researchers participate in several working groups and strategy panels related to health technology assessment.
Partners in applied health services research Researchers in CAST carry out consultant and development projects in collaboration with external partners. These partners include, for example, the counties in Southern Denmark, municipalities, hospitals, patient organisations and the industry.
Methods CAST projects are based on scientific methods. The objectives, methods and financial framework are agreed upon at the start of the project. CAST researchers may also contribute as resource persons with special competence in a specific field or may act as project leaders or process consultants in projects carried out by others.
Health technology assessment
According to an agreement between CAST and the Danish Centre for Evaluation and Health Technology Assessment (which is under the responsibility of the Danish National Board of Health), CAST provides consultancy and support on health technology assessment issues to other researchers and project holders, with a special commitment to the region of Southern Denmark.
Financing CAST is financed externally through project work. It is a non-profit organisation and should therefore not generate profits to SDU or others.
