Professor Katharina Al-Shamery, a renowned professor of chemistry at the university in Oldenburg, has been employed as an honorary professor at the Mads Clausen Institute (MCI), University of Southern Denmark, since 1 July. Hereby the University of Southern Denmark strengthens its focus on organic molecular nanotechnology.
With more than 20 years of experience in nanoscience, Professor Katharina Al-Shamery’s career has been impressive, and it has taken her from Göttingen and Zürich via Oxford and Berlin to the university in Oldenburg.
At the university in Oldenburg she has successfully been responsible for the establishment of new study programmes as well as for the development of research concepts. The professor is also both the instigator and head of the so-called Center for Interface Sciences, which unites more than 23 distinguished research groups from different universities in North West Germany.
Through a number of years, Katharina Al-Shamery has cooperated with Professor Rubahn from the
Mads Clausen Institute, University of Southern Denmark, on development and extension of the research field of nanotechnology, which is concentrated at the University of Southern Denmark campus in Sønderborg.
The vision of the cooperation is to create a common platform, among other things for the development and design of new types of nanomaterials that can be tailored for many purposes using organic molecular nanotechnology. The synthetic chemical research, which Professor Al-Shamery will be in charge of, is key to the realisation of these visions. She will also function as coordinator in connection with additional chemical expertise.
As an honorary professor, Al-Shamery will also play a role in identifying cooperation possibilities across borders.
