Before the University of Southern Denmark takes over the lease of Odense Adelige Jomfrukloster, the public will have a unique opportunity to see the newly refurbished historical building.
Anyone interested will now have the opportunity to see the newly refurbished Odense Adelige Jomfrukloster (Home for Unmarried Women of Rank).
The doors of this historical gem are usually not open to the public, but because it has just been completely refurbished and the University of Southern Denmark is about to take over the lease, the public is invited to attend an open house event from 23 to 27 August, 1–5 pm.
The building served as a home for unmarried women of rank until 1972 and is regarded as a unique building in Danish architecture and Denmark’s cultural history. The building’s interior – walls, doors, wallpaper – contains fragments from more than five centuries of changing architectural styles and décors. preferences.
Sweeping restoration
The building has undergone a comprehensive four-year restoration process financed by Realdania Byg. It is now ready to meet its future as a setting for research and education – and as a modern office building for some 30 scientists and employees of the University of Southern Denmark.
The former library has been converted into a meeting room and can be used by the university’s Board of Governors for meetings, receiving foreign visitors, official events, etc. A small auditorium has also been constructed, named after Karen Brahe, the founder of the home for unmarried women of rank. The auditorium seats around 50.
Workplace for research units
The University of Southern Denmark will take over the lease from 1 September after which three research units will move in: the Hans Christian Andersen Centre, Knowledge Lab and the Global Health and Immigrant Medicine Research Unit.
The open house event is free of charge and open to all. The address is Albani Torv 6, DK-5000 Odense C.
