Next week, more than 1,440 young people from virtually all over the world will embark on their new lives as international students at the University of Southern Denmark. On 2 September they will be officially welcomed to Campus Odense at an event that will be attended by Princess Marie.
This year, the university has again seen a great deal of interest from abroad. As a result, at the start of the first semester next week, the campus will be thronging with young people from China, Italy, Bulgaria and many other countries.
1,440 international students have been admitted so far. And there are more to come, as international students will continue to be enrolled until 1 October.
The young people come from 89 different countries and will study at all of the university’s five campuses.
Many will take a bachelor’s or master’s degree in English or study here as exchange students for one or two semesters.
Royal visit
On Monday 2 September all new international students will have the chance to meet at a reception at the Odense campus.
Rector Jens Oddershede will host the event, which will also be attended by Princess Marie. It will be the third time that the princess has welcomed international students to SDU.
Among the evening’s events will be a speech given by Yujie Su from Xi'an in China. Yujie Sue began her studies at Campus Sønderborg last year and will describe her experiences as a student in Denmark.
Yujie Sue is a full degree student and is studying for an MSc in Engineering – Innovation and Business.
Professor David Nye from the Centre for American Studies will give the welcome speech, which will give the new students a few pointers about the Danes and Denmark.
There are about 5,000 international students at SDU. Approximately one in five students is from abroad.
