The Dean welcomes you
Dear new student at The Faculty of Business and Social Sciences,
Welcome to the Faculty and welcome to the life as a student at the University of Southern Denmark!
You are about to enter a new stage in your life – a stage that will bring exciting challenges, access to new insight and knowledge, and many enjoyable experiences with your fellow students. All of this will benefit you in your further life, both professionally and privately.
The Faculty wishes to provide the best possible surroundings for a successful course of study. We hope to do so by providing a motivating environment, inspirational learning and competent service. Our goal is that the day you hold your diploma in your hand, you will look back at your time at the Faculty with joy and a feeling of accomplishment – a feeling that you have achieved something that both you and your dear ones can be proud of.
When you start your studies at the university it is like entering a new and unknown path. Regardless of whether you are the first in your family to get “behind the walls” or if you are acquainted with the academic world beforehand, it might all seem new and strange to you.
The university holds a special universe of its own. We have special terms and phrases that you will not come across anywhere else in society. Furthermore, the university holds the scope for the most outstanding research, knowledge and understanding brought out by our skilled lecturers and professors. All of these you will soon meet in class since the university is the place where the most recent research is channeled out to society through your education. That is why you are important and the reason why we, at the Faculty, pride ourselves in keeping the student in focus.
Now, it does not all have to be great words about the future. When it all seems a bit overwhelming, especially in the beginning, remember that you are not alone. There are plenty of employees at the Faculty ready to help you. You will find freshers reps, academic advisors, university teachers, secretaries of studies and many others. No questions are considered as stupid, so do not hesitate to fire away with any questions you might have. We are all here to help you.
And do not forget your fellow students. They form your network, both academically and socially. So use and support each other! That will make your course of study a richer and more enjoyable experience. In the next couple of days you will, alongside your fellow students, experience a festive atmosphere and new friendships will form during the start of you studies. Welcome and have a great time.
Dean, Professor Jesper Strandskov
