PhD programme at the Faculty of Science

Through the programme, PhD students obtain experience with research at the highest international level and with research results that are publishable in internationally acclaimed scientific journals. PhD students also obtain experience with teaching and dissrmination as well as acquire scientific understanding through participation in tailored PhD courses.

All PhD students are assigned to an academic environment within a department, but are at the same time expected to maintain contacts with relevant researchers and research environments at other departments and faculties – and to the widest possible extent with the entire national and international research community.

In terms of academic level, the PhD programme is based on a successfully completed Master's programme and corresponds to three years' full-time work. Within this time frame, PhD students complete a study programme that includes:

  • an independent research project completed under academic supervision
  • a course programme corresponding to six months of studies (30 ECTS)
  • establishment of links to one or more research environments (preferably abroad)
  • experience with teaching and other dissemination of knowledge
  • completion of a PhD thesis
