Synopsis
Short introduction to modern mass spectrometry based analytical strategies, herein different types of ionisation techniques and mass analysers.
Determination of structure of peptides/proteins by mass spectrometry and tandem mass spectrometry.
Overview of bioinformatic tools available for proteomics, primarily for identification and characterisation through mass spectrometry data and secondly for further analysis of the obtained results.
Search parameters and validation of search results will be introduced and discussed.
Furthermore, subjects like calibration of spectra, use of search databases, error-tolerant searches and sequencing of modified peptides by mass spectrometry will be treated.
