SDU has an agreement with Copy-Dan Billedkunst, which means that you can use pictures from the Internet and from books for illustrations in lectures, teaching, and papers.
According to this agreement, you are allowed to:
- Download illustrations from Internet pages with open access
- Scan illustrations from books, postcards, magazines, etc.
- Use these illustrations in PowerPoint presentations and in papers
- Create illustrated lessons for use on Smartboards
- Save your illustrated presentations and lessons on Smartboards and re-use and/or share them with other lecturers at your institution
- Save your own illustrated lessons, PowerPoint presentations, papers, and answers to your institution’s intranet or store them on USB media
- Add pictures to student reports and papers
- Exchange illustrated digital lessons, papers and reports via e-mail between lecturers and students at your institution
- Create a picture archive on the institution’s intranet
According to the agreement, you are not allowed to:
- Use the illustrations outside the institution or share them with others than the lecturers and students at the institution
- Use the illustrations for other purposes than lecturing and teaching
- Upload the illustrations to Web pages with open access, including the institution’s own homepage
- Upload the illustrations to an intranet without password-protected access
- Manipulate or change the illustrations
Remember always to quote the source for the illustrations.
Please note that a number of artists and photographers do not permit use of their works. You can find a list of their names here.

If you want illustrations for documents which are to be shared outside your institution, you need to get permission from the copyright owners. Or you can try to find pictures that have a Creative Commons (CC) or similar licence.

The materials can be used freely, for anything from marketing to teaching and papers or articles.
The pictures can be uploaded to websites or printed.
Springer Images
Springer Images contains a big collection of scientific illustrations and graphic materials for use in teaching.
