Maps and atlases

Rules of thumb:
Maps and atlases are to be found at different locations.

In Odense:

• in the Information Room
• in the Reading Room
• among the books for loan 

Keep in mind:

1. If you need to look something up quickly in an atlas.
   You can use the map collection in the Information Room in Odense.
2. If you need a more detailed map of an area.
   You can use the map collection in the Reading room in Odense.
3. If you need historic or special maps.
   Start with the map collection in the Information Room in Odense but remember that these maps might also be located under their respective subjects.
4. If you want to borrow an atlas.
   General atlases available for loan in Odense are located under the shelf mark: N(y),
   and can be borrowed according to the normal borrowing rules.
   Maps located in the Information Room in Odense are available for overnight loan.
5. The classification marks in Odense are N(y) (geographical maps) or K(y) (historic maps).

  Large collection of maps - especially old maps. These are not for loan. Some foreign maps are available for loan.

  SDU centre concerned with landscape history based on a comprehensive collection of economic and topographical maps, especially concerning Funen.

Map collection in the Information Room, Odense:

• Gyldendals Verdensatlas
• Times Atlas
• Kraks kortbøger over danske byer
• Kortbog for Fyns amt
• Plus a large number of other general and special atlases.

As they are a part of the reference collection only a very few of the atlases are available for overnight loan.
Remember that some works of maps are located under their respective subjects in the Information Room.

Map collection in the Reading Room, Odense - national works of maps:

• Denmark, for example, in 1:25 000 (4 cm)  - also on CD-ROM in the Information Room.

• Sweden 1:50 000
• Germany 1:50 000

There are also map sheet series for many other European countries and a few other countries.

There are also some special maps (typically historic) and big atlases that are located in the Reading room due to their format.
i.e. Det Kongelige Danske Videnskabernes Selskabs danmarkskort 1768-1825.

Danmark on CD-ROM: 

• Danmarks topografiske kortværk. Danmark på CD-ROM, 1993.
  Covers the whole of Denmark. Scale 1:25.000 to 1:100.000
  Availability: Information Room, SDUB, Odense.
