American popular film; the American war film; the American action film, the horror film

My most recent publications are  War Isn’t Hell, It’s Entertainment: Essays on Visual Media and the Representation of Conflict (Jefferson: McFarland, 2009) with Tanja Thomas, Fabian Virchow, and Debra White-Stanley, and Super Bitches and Action Babes: The Female Hero in Popular Cinema, 1970-2006, 368 pages (Jefferson: McFarland Publishers, July 2007).

I am working on a project about the American war film after 1991, funded with a two-year grant by the Danish Research Council for the Humanities starting January 1, 2008. I am also co-editing the anthology anthology Eastwood’s Iwo Jima: A Critical Engagement with Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima with Anne Gjelsvik (forthcoming in 2010, Wallflower Press).

My areas of research are American popular cinema after 1970, especially action films, horror films, and war films. My publications in Danish and English are on American war films, female heroes in popular cinema, the action cinema, the horror cinema, and the contemporary popular American film. Most of my work is focused on American cinema with chapters in some of my books covering for instance the films by French director Luc Besson or the films with Japanese actor Meiko Kaji.

My Ph.D. is from Dept. of Film and Media Studies, University of Copenhagen (2000) and my M.A. (magisterkonferens) is from Dept. of Comparative Literature, University of Copenhagen (1994).

Rikke Schubart er lektor på Syddansk Universitet. Hun arbejder på et forskningsprojekt støttet af FKK, “Hollywood’s Combat Zone” om den amerikanske krigsfilm efter 1991. Hendes seneste bog er War Isn’t Hell, It’s Entertainment: Essays on Visual Media and the Representation of Conflict (med D. White-Stanley, T. Thomas og F. Virchow, 2009, McFarland). Hun forsker i amerikansk film og har skrevet Super Bitches and Action Babes: The Female Hero in Popular Cinema, 1970-2006 (2007, McFarland). Hun forsker desuden i gyserfilm – Verdens 25 Bedste gyserfilm, (Rosinante, 2001), I lyst og død: Fra Frankenstein til splatterfilm (Borgen, 1993) – og actionfilm – Med vold og magt: Actionfilm fra Dirty Harry til The Matrix, (Rosinante, 2002). Hun har redigeret antologier på engelsk og dansk, blandt andet Femme Fatalities: Representations of Strong Women in the Media (2004, Nordicom) med Anne Gjelsvik. Hun skriver også fiktion.
