Forskningsområder
Fields of Research:
My main field of research is the modernization of the Muslim world in applying theories of world society, historical political sociology, and the sociology of knowledge. In thematic terms, I have conducted studies on the relationship between religion and politics, modern state formation, as well as war and conflict in the Middle East. This research has been partly funded by grants from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, German Academic Exchange Service, the Danish Social Science Research Council and Carlsberg Foundation. My most recent research project on the modern image of Islam as a book-publication in October 2011 by Equinox under the title Orientalists, Islamists and the Global Public Sphere. A Historical Genealogy of the Modern Essentialist Image of Islam. The book aims at a contribution to a global theory of knowledge and to the rise and spread of Islamist ideologies.
