Journalism
The journalist of the future is a multimedia journalist
As a new-baked journalist from the University of Southern Denmark, you can work with all types of media - written media, web journalism, television and radio. The ability to work with multiple forms of media will be one of the most important characteristics for the journalists of the future.
The content of the education programmes
The written media are worked with in the first and fourth semesters, covering a total period of one year.
The electronic media, i.e. radio and television, are worked with in the second and third semesters, a half year each.
Web journalism is included in all four semesters.
The first three semesters
You learn to combine the respective media in the course of the first three semesters.
As you write newspaper articles, you are also learning to write web articles.
While producing radio and television segments in the second and third semesters, you will also hold a website updated with news, sound files and image files.
In the fourth semester, the respective media are truly synthesized in a process in which the entire media pallet is put to use simultaneously.
In other words, the journalistic craft and language is combined with the academic disciplines that are relevant for the journalist of the future.
Journalism in practice
The world of journalism will be presented to you via a number of projects. Journalist students from Odense have previously worked together with:
- The Danish Broadcasting Corporation (Danmarks Radio - DR)
- TV2/Fyn
- Nordisk Film
- TDC
- Microsoft
Study structure
Journalism is studied in a 3½- year bachelor degree programme.
Once you have received your bachelor's degree in journalism, you can choose to continue with the master's degree programme in journalism or choose a special master's degree programme.
