D-branes in String Theory
Who: Rodolfo Russo (Queen Mary, U. of London)
When: Friday, November 26, 2010 at 11:30
Where: The CP³ meeting room
Abstract:
The aim of these lectures is to provide an introduction to D-branes in type II string theories. I will start from the basic definition of D-branes as the objects supporting the fundamental string endpoints, then I will describe them from the closed string point of view and I will discuss their “gravitational” backreaction. I will conclude by giving a brief overview on how D-brane bound states have been used to model black holes in string theory.
