Configurational Comparative Methods: QCA and Fuzzy Sets
Professor Charles Ragin
2-3 November 2011
Centre for Welfare State Research
Department of Political Science
University of Southern Denmark (SDU)
Charles Ragin’s primary goal is to develop methods which help students and researchers unravel causal complexity in their research. This has led him to develop and champion the use of set-theoretic methods in the social sciences, most notably Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) and fuzzy set analysis.
Charles Ragin is Professor of Sociology and Political Science at the University of Arizona. However, on 1 November 2011 Professor Ragin will also commence a part-time professorship at the Centre for Welfare State Research, Department of Political Science, SDU.
For this reason, we have the opportunity to arrange a two-day seminar on Configurational Comparative Methods: QCA and Fuzzy Sets. The seminar is open to PhD students at SDU and from political science departments in Denmark as well as to faculty at SDU. Moreover, there are a number of places for scholars from abroad.
There is no registration fee for the seminar, but participants will have to cover all other expenses (hotel, travel, etc.) themselves.
To register, please send an e-mail (max. 1 page) including motivation for participation and a short CV to Kasper Jon Larsen at kjla@sam.sdu.dk. The deadline is Wednesday 19 October.
Patrick Emmenegger (associate professor) and Jon Kvist (professor) will select applicants if the maximum limit is reached. Successful applicants will be notified by e-mail on Thursday 20 October in the late afternoon.
