The dates for the Mitochondrial Summer School 2010 are now fixed.
It has been decided, that the conference ‘Mitochondrial Summer School’ will take place from Monday the 28th of June until Thursday the 1st of July in Søauditoriet at Aarhus University.
Both Danish and international researchers will give speeches on the latest research in the field of mitochondrial diseases. The programme is yet to be established, but associate professor and co-organiser Peter Bross promises, that there will be some really interesting key note speakers.
”We are in contact with some of the leading scientists in this area of research, so I suggest that master students and PhDs with an interest within this field should mark their calendars now.”
Peter Bross and his co-organisers therefore also invite students to submit proposals on whom they would like to give speeches. This year will be the second time the Mitochondrial Summer School is held, and the organisers hope that patients with mitochondrial diseases will attend.
“It is essential for scientists to keep in mind that research in mitochondria is so important, because dysfunctional mitochondria are the cause of many different diseases,” says Peter Bross.
Since last year a new research group concentration on mitochondrial diseases has been established. The group is part of the new Centre for Healthy Aging, which is located at the University of Copenhagen. The centre director, Lene Juel Rasmussen says: ”We bring mitochondrial research more into focus now, and the next couple of years I expect to see many exiting results,” she says.
